DVD Recorders

DVD recorders that run on alternating current, except the followings:

1) ones for industrial use,

2) ones without video cassette recorder (VCR) or magnetic disk unit (HDD),

3) ones having game function

4) ones having server function, or

5) ones whose laser beam used to write to or read from an optical disc has a wavelength of 600 nanometers or shorter (next generation recording equipment (Blue-ray disk recorders and HD DVD recorders)).

Energy consumption efficiency shall be annual energy consumption (kWh/year) obtained as follows. First, each of standby power, power consumption when operating DVD, VCR or HDD, and power consumption when acquiring EPG (electronic program guide) is multiplied by respective annual standby or operation hours, and then the resulting values are added together to obtain annual energy consumption.

In the target fiscal year and each subsequent fiscal year, for each category, the weighted average value obtained by weighting energy consumption efficiency with shipment volume shall not be above the target standard value which is a weighted average value obtained by weighting standard energy consumption efficiency^*1 with shipment volume.

●For non-DTB-capable DVD recorders, energy consumption efficiency was improved by about 40.9% compared with the FY2004 level in the target fiscal year (FY2008).

●For DTB-capable DVD recorders, energy consumption efficiency was improved by about 45.2% compared with the FY2006 level in the target fiscal year (FY2010).

Display items shall be presented at locations where they can be readily noticed in catalogs showing performance indications and in instruction manuals.

Manufacturers or importers whose annual manufacturing volume or importing volume (limited to shipment to the domestic market) is 4,000 units or more may be subject to recommendations and orders.
