Magnetic Disk Units

Target Scope

Magnetic disk units, except the following:

1) Those with a memory capacity of 1 GB or less,

2) Those which only work based on direct-current power supply through data communication cable of USB cables, etc.

Energy Consumption Efficiency

Energy consumption efficiency shall be a numeric value obtained by dividing power consumption (W) by memory capacity (GB).

Categories & Target Standard Values

1) FY2011 and each subsequent fiscal year (until FY2022)

In the target fiscal year and each subsequent fiscal year, for each category, the weighted average value obtained by weighting energy consumption efficiency with shipment volume shall not be above the target standard value which is a weighted average value obtained by weighting standard energy consumption efficiency*1 with shipment volume. *1: Values obtained from the standard energy consumption calculation formulas.

*1: Values obtained from the standard energy consumption calculation formulas.

Subsystem Ones for main frame server M E=exp(1.85×ln(N)-18.8)
Ones whose category name is not M N E=exp(1.56×ln(N)-17.7)
Remarks:
  1. ‟Main frame server” refers to server type computers (computers designed to provide service and the like via a network) mounted with a dedicated CISC (which is, among CPUs designed to be able to execute multiple commands differing in the number of bits, ones each of which is designed for exclusive use per computer).
  2. E and N represent the following values, respectively.
    E: Standard energy consumption efficiency
N: Number of revolutions (unit: per minute)
  3. In represents a logarithm having e as the base.

2) FY2023 and each subsequent fiscal year

In the target fiscal year and each subsequent fiscal year, for each category, the weighted average value obtained by weighting energy consumption efficiency with shipment volume shall not be above the target standard value which is a weighted average value obtained by weighting standard energy consumption efficiency with shipment volume.

1 - 1 I E=exp(2.98×ln(N)-30.8)
2 or 3 II E=exp(2.98×ln(N)-31.2)
4 or more III E=exp(2.11×ln(N)-23.5)

12 or more Having structures containing 3.5-inch disk drives (with a width of over 75mm) - V 0.00170
Having structures consisting of 2.5-inch disk drives alone (with a width of 75mm or less) - VI E=exp(0.952×ln(N)-14.2)
Remarks:
  1. The letters “E” and “N” in the respective target standard values refer to the numerical values representing the following items.
E: Energy efficiency standards (unit: watt/gigabyte)
N: Number of revolutions (unit: rate per minute)
  2. The term “In” refers to logarithm having “e” as the base.
  3. When multiple disk drives with different revolution rates are mounted in one device, the revolution rate (N) should be the weighted average of the revolution rates of the respective disk drives based on the number of installed drives.
  4. Width should be the length of intermediate side of external dimensions
