Electric Refrigerators

 

Target Scope


Electric refrigerators including ones combined with a freezer, except the followings:

1) ones using thermoelectric elements,

2) residential ones of absorption type and used mainly for storage of wine, or

3) ones other than residential ones as described below:

  a. cold air-forced convection types in which the lower limit of the rated storage temperature of the chiller is zero degrees or higher,

  b. cold air-natural convection types,

  c. ones whose rated internal volume is over 2,000 L,

  d. ones other than those covered by JIS B 8630 (2009),

  e. ones that do not use 1,1,1,2,2-pentafluoroethane (HFC-125), 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HFC-143a), or 1,1,1,2-tetrafluorethane (HFC-134a) as refrigerant,

  f. ones for use while disconnected from a power source, comprising casters

  g. ones of horizontal type with an external height dimension of 650 mm or less (in a case of being integrated with a washstand, the height corresponding to that of the washstand shall be excluded),

  h. one of vertical type with an external height dimension of 2,050 mm or more,

  i. ones having a water-cooled condenser,

  j. ones having a structure comprising doors on both sides of the housing,

  k. drawer refrigerators,

  l. ones manufactured for an orderer in accordance with housing dimensions, compressor freezing capacity or insulation performance specifications defined based on the orderer’s instructions, annual shipment volume of which is less than 50 units.

 

Energy Consumption Efficiency

[Home-use refrigerators]

●Categories & Target Standard Values (1)
Energy consumption efficiency shall be annual energy consumption (kWh/year) measured by a method stipulated in JIS C 9801 (2006).

●Categories & Target Standard Values (2)
Energy consumption efficiency shall be annual energy consumption (kWh/year) measured by a method stipulated in JIS C 9801-3 (2015).

[Business-use refrigerators]

●Energy consumption efficiency shall be annual energy consumption (kWh/year) measured by a method stipulated in JIS B 8630 (2009).

 

Categories & Target Standard Values


In the target fiscal year and each subsequent fiscal year, for each category, the weighted average value obtained by weighting energy consumption efficiency with shipment volume shall not be above the target standard value which is a weighted average value obtained by weighting standard energy consumption efficiency*1 with shipment volume.

*1: Values obtained from the standard energy consumption efficiency calculation formulas and rounded to the nearest integers.

[Home-use refrigerators]

(1) Refrigerators whose target fiscal year is FY2010 and each subsequent fiscal year (until FY2020)

It shall be a value obtained first by multiplying the rated internal volume of a freezing compartment by either 2.20 for three-star type, 1.87 for two-star type, or 1.54 for one-star type, and then by adding the result to the rated internal volume of storage compartments excluding the freezing compartment, and rounded to the nearest integer. It is a total sum of the values obtained by multiplying the rated internal volume of each storage compartment by the adjusted internal volume coefficient respectively, which shall be obtained from the following formula and rounded to the nearest integer.
Kci: Adjusted internal volume coefficient, which is a value given in the right column of the table below for each type of storage compartment given in the left column.
Vi: Rated internal volume, which is a value for each type of storage compartment given in the left column of the table below. (unit: liter)
n: Number of storage compartments in a refrigerator or a refrigerator-freezer

Remarks:
  1. “Vertical type” refers to a front-opening type with a height (unit: mm) based on the external dimensions stipulated in JIS B 8630 (2009) (hereinafter referred to as “external height dimension”) of over 1,000 mm. The same applies hereinafter.
  2. “Horizontal type” refers to a front-opening type with an external height dimension of 1,000 mm or less. The same applies hereinafter.

    It shall be a value obtained from the formula given for each category in the right column of the following table and rounded to the nearest integer.

Energy Efficiency Improvement


●For home-use refrigerators whose target fiscal year was FY2010, energy consumption efficiency was improved by about 43.0% compared with the FY2005 level.

●For home-use refrigerators whose target fiscal year is FY2021, energy consumption efficiency is expected to be improved by about 22.0% compared with the FY2014 level.

●For business-use refrigerators whose target fiscal year was FY2016, energy consumption efficiency was improved by about 45.3% compared with the FY2007 level.

●For business-use refrigerator-freezers whose target fiscal year was FY2016, energy consumption efficiency was improved by about 40.7% compared with the FY2007 level.

●Display items shall be presented at locations where they can be readily noticed by consumers. Precautions for use shall be indicated on product bodies or instruction manuals.

Requirement for Recommendations and Orders


Manufacturers or importers whose annual manufacturing volume or importing volume (limited to shipment to the domestic market) is 2,000 units or more (100 units or more for business-use refrigerators) may be subject to recommendations and orders.
